A Sustainable World at Techmania Science Center

Plzeň, 21.03.2025 - Techmania Science Center has introduced a new exposition that aims to introduce the pressing topics of today's world to the general public in a playful and light-hearted way. Visitors will not be presented with catastrophic scenarios, on the contrary, they should relax and feel comfortable in the exhibition space thanks to the sounds of nature, lighting elements and specific smells.
The new exhibition Sustainable World is made up of seven interactive exhibits, each focusing on one of the key themes. Through them, visitors will learn about the issues of waste accumulation, anthropogenic illegal activities, nature degradation, pollution and lack of drinking water, air quality and the penetration of harmful substances into plants and animals. Upon entering the new exhibit, the history of planet Earth is also depicted, which is summarized in twenty-four hours. This element visually engagingly highlights the very small amount of time allotted to humans and then focuses on the impact they have had on shaping our world.
Key exhibits also include an interactive model of the technological water cycle that allows visitors to not only observe, but actively manage the processes involved in water treatment and purification. Through this exhibit, it is possible to understand how wastewater and drinking water treatment plants work and their importance for sustainable water resource management.
The exhibition covers an area of 100 m² and is located in a shaded area, which allows the lighting elements to stand out and create an impressive visual atmosphere. Thematically, it builds on the existing Renewable Energy and Green Techmania exhibitions, adding a comprehensive view of sustainable technologies and innovations. Thanks to the great commitment of Techmania Science Center staff and external suppliers, the exhibition was designed, developed and produced in a very short time - the whole process took just a year and a half. The total cost of the implementation amounted to approximately CZK 6 million, which was covered by a subsidy from the Pilsen Region.
"This exposition is exceptional for us not only because of the speed with which it was developed and produced, but also because it is the first implementation in which our new team was involved. It's great to see how their enthusiasm and new ideas have come to life in the interactive elements that introduce visitors to important environmental topics in a playful way. I believe that with this project we will once again succeed in pushing the boundaries of informal education and popularization activities in our region," adds Jiří Královec, Director of Techmania Science Center.
Visitors can freely view the new exhibition during the regular opening hours of the Techmania Science Center: from Tuesday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can also get to know it better and explore its details on the Techmania website.
