About us
Techmania Science Center opens the door to the fascinating world of science and technology. We are a place where the general public can immerse themselves in a world of discovery, experimentation and human knowledge. Our exhibitions and programs combine interactive education with modern technology to create an inspiring environment for families, school groups and science enthusiasts.
We are not only a science center, but also a driving force for science popularization. We actively participate in Czech and international projects as initiators, partners and coordinators. We organize educational competitions, professional seminars, thematic exhibitions and create inspiring educational materials. Our activities extend to the national coordination of prestigious events such as the Night of Scientists.

Our vision
We want Techmania to be a place where science comes alive. Our goal is to build a bridge between experts and the public to make science and technology understandable and inspiring. Supporting gifted children on their journey of discovery is a key role for us. And because curiosity knows no boundaries, we open the gates of space to all who are eager to discover the mysteries of space and explore distant worlds.

Establishment of the company
In this year, the Regional Technical Museum o.p.s. was founded, which became the basis for the future Techmania Science Center. The main goal of this company was to create a modern space for the popularization of science and technology.
First visitors
On 4 November 2008, the centre opened to the public for the first time and offered its first exhibitions focused on science and technology. This year the building of the Science Centre became the Building of the Year of the Pilsen Region. Škoda Transportation donated to our company a unique, the only surviving trolleybus ŠKODA 3Tr3 from 1947, which was subsequently extensively renovated.
Opening of the 3D Planetarium
This year was a major milestone in the history of the Techmania Science Center. After the first eight months of operation, the Science Centre closed for two months to undergo a major reconstruction. Techmania won the Building of the Year Award of the Pilsen Region for the planetarium building.
10th anniversary
Techmania Science Center celebrated its 10th anniversary. Nearly 1.4 million visitors have visited Techmania since its opening.
Change of founders of the company
The founder of the company has changed, the University of West Bohemia is still a strategic partner of Techmania Science Center and the new founder is the Pilsen Region. Extensive roof repairs have been completed on the science centre building. The development and production of a new exhibition called Sustainable World is underway. At the same time, the EnviSTEAM project, which links environmental education with science and technology, was implemented.
History of the area
The two large industrial halls carry the legacy of industrial heritage and the progressive building technologies of their time. The monolithic reinforced concrete structure of impressive dimensions was built by the renowned Müller&Kapsa company in 1917 according to a design by Ludwig Tremmel, a professor at the German Industrial School in Pilsen. It was one of the largest halls in the factory, where during 100 years mainly ship cannons, locomotives or giant gears were produced.
The building of today's 3D Planetarium was built between 1917 and 1918 according to the project "Kantina Jih" by Müller&Kapsa. The girders supporting the vault of the main dining room use a patent of the Weimar industrialist Otto Hetzer: spruce and beech slats are glued together with a mixture of curd and lime. For most of its century-long existence, the building served as a canteen for the employees of the Škoda factories.
In 2010, the buildings were listed as a cultural monument due to their construction, which allowed them to be thoroughly renovated into what is now a modern centre for the popularisation of science.
