About us
Techmania Science Center opens the door to the fascinating world of science and technology. We are a place where the general public can immerse themselves in a world of discovery, experimentation and human knowledge. Our exhibitions and programs blend interactive learning with modern technology, creating an inspiring environment for families with children, school groups, and science enthusiasts.
We are not only a science center, but also a driving force for science popularization. We actively participate in both Czech and international projects—as initiators, partners, and coordinators. We organize educational competitions, professional seminars, thematic exhibitions, and develop inspiring educational materials. Our activities extend to the national coordination of prestigious events such as the European Researchers’ Night.

Our vision
We want Techmania to be a place where science comes alive. Our goal is to build a bridge between experts and the public, making science and technology both accessible and inspiring. Supporting gifted children on their path to discovery is one of our key missions. And because curiosity knows no boundaries, we open the gateway to space for everyone eager to uncover the mysteries of space and explore distant worlds.

Establishment of the company
The Regional Technical Museuma, a public benefit organization, was founded this year, laying the foundation for what would later become the Techmania Science Center. The company’s main goal was to create a modern space dedicated to the popularization of science and technology.
First visitors
On 4 November 2008, the center opened its doors to the public for the first time, presenting its initial exhibitions focused on science and technology. That same year, the Science Center building was named Building of the Year in the Pilsen Region. Škoda Transportation donated a unique piece to our organization—the only surviving ŠKODA 3Tr3 trolleybus from 1947—which was subsequently extensively renovated.
Opening of the 3D Planetarium
This year marked a major milestone in the history of the Techmania Science Center. After eight months of operation, the center closed for two months to undergo significant reconstruction. On 4 November, the first 3D Planetarium in the Czech Republic was officially opened. Techmania received the Building of the Year award of the Pilsen Region for the planetarium building.
10th anniversary
Techmania Science Center celebrated its 10th anniversary. Since its opening, it has welcomed nearly 1.4 million visitors.
Change in the Company's Founders Structure
There was a change in the company's founder structure: the University of West Bohemia remains a strategic partner of the Techmania Science Center, while the new founder is the Pilsen Region. Extensive roof repairs on the science center building were completed. Development and production of a new exhibition titled Sustainable World are currently underway. At the same time, the EnviSTEAM project—linking environmental education with science and technology—was successfully implemented.
History of the area
The two expansive industrial halls embody the legacy of industrial heritage and the progressive construction technologies of their time. The impressive monolithic reinforced concrete structure was built in 1917 by the renowned company Müller & Kapsa, based on a design by Ludwig Tremmel, a professor at the German Industrial School in Pilsen. It was one of the largest halls in the factory, where, over the course of a century, ship cannons, locomotives, and massive gear wheels were produced.
The building that now houses the 3D Planetarium was constructed between 1917 and 1918, based on the “Kantina Jih” project by Müller & Kapsa. The trusses supporting the vaulted ceiling of the main dining hall employ a patent developed by Weimar industrialist Otto Hetzer: spruce and beech lamellae glued together with a mixture of curd and lime. For most of its hundred-year history, the building served as a canteen for employees of the Škoda Works.
In 2010, the buildings were granted cultural monument status due to their unique construction, enabling a thorough renovation into the modern science communication center we know today.

techmania team
Techmania Science Center in Pilsen serves as a bridge between informal education and a popular tourist destination.
Its mission is to help pupils, students, and families with children discover and develop a personal connection to science and technology—and more broadly, to explore the possibilities of human knowledge.
